What OnlyFans actually pays — the median, not the headline

The data you see in OnlyFans success stories is the top 1%. The actual numbers across the platform’s ~4.6 million creators (2026 reporting):

  • Median creator monthly income: ~$131–$180 after platform fees
  • Bottom 50% of creators: under $50/month
  • Top 10% of creators: roughly $1,500–$3,000/month
  • Top 1% of creators: ~$49,000/year (~$4,000/month)
  • Top 0.1%: 15× the top 1% (~$700K+/year)
  • The famous-name outliers (Bella Thorne, Blac Chyna): high six to eight figures monthly — these are pre-existing celebrities, not creators who built on OF

The top 1% of creators earn roughly 33% of total platform revenue. The income distribution is more concentrated than almost any other creator economy.

What it takes to build to top-10% income

The realistic ramp for a new creator with no pre-existing audience: 6–18 months of consistent daily content production, daily fan interaction (DM management is most of the actual work), social-media driver content on Instagram, TikTok, X, and Reddit, and ongoing promotional spend. The work is comparable to running a small media business — except the discovery problem is on you because the platform has no algorithm.

The creators who reach top 10% typically have one or more of: an existing social media following before launching, a niche specialty (kink, fetish, body-type-specific), or significant initial promotional spend. Without those, building from zero takes longer.

The permanence question

OnlyFans content is supposedly behind a paywall. In practice: leak sites, screen recordings, content shared in forums and Discords. Once your face and stage name are on the platform, the content is permanent and increasingly searchable.

This is the same fundamental issue as studio work, with one difference: on OF you control which content gets created. You can choose what stays in the catalog. You can’t un-create studio content under another company’s ownership.

OnlyFans vs studio work at 18

The honest comparison: OnlyFans is a long-tail business you build. Studio work is a job you do. The income shapes are inverted:

  • OF first month: typically $0–$200
  • OF first 6 months: typically under $1,000 total
  • Studio scene: $800–$1,500 same day
  • OF year 2 (top 10% bracket): $20K–$40K/yr
  • Studio (12 scenes/yr): $10K–$18K/yr

The unappreciated fact: a studio shoot can be a customer-acquisition channel for OnlyFans. Professional content shows up in tube-site indexes; viewers search your stage name; some convert to OF subscribers. The math: if a single studio scene drives 50 sustained subscribers at $10/month, that’s $500/month recurring on top of the day rate. Full breakdown of how studio work feeds OF subscriptions.

If you’re 18 and considering it

The thing to internalize: OF is a small business with terrible odds for creators starting from zero. The median income is closer to a side hustle than a career. The top-1% income is real but rare and usually requires either pre-existing audience, niche specialty, or sustained promotional spend.

If you’re weighing OF specifically because you saw “women making $X,000/month” — that’s the top 1%. The math for everyone else is significantly worse.

If you’re weighing OF because you want to build a long-term content business and have the patience for 12–18 months of slow ramp, it’s a real path. Combining it with one or two studio scenes early can compress that timeline meaningfully.
